Donald "Drawbertson"

The recent addition of cheeky graphic tees designed by Donald Robertson for J. Crew got me curious of other works by the doodle-artist. Apparently he is not only an acclaimed artist
, who was nominated by the CFDA as "Instagramer of the Year" where he posts much of his work, but he started in the cosmetics industry with MAC cosmetics and is currently on Estee Lauder's creative team.

Throughout the past few years he has produced strikingly creative pieces of artwork through the use of many mediums such as napkins, bananas, and cardboard boxes. His style has a pronounced sense of humor, but his ingenuity is undeniable.

Roberstson is the father of five children who he is quoted to have given credit to for much of his inspiration. He also often pays tribute to influential icons such as Kayne West and Anna Wintour.

As a tribute to Pharrell Williams' and Comme des Garçons collaboration last year, Robertson instagramed this creation he constructed when he found out the news. His caption read: My two favorite subjects announce a new fragrance collab and I'm stuck in a hotel room in hollywood with no art supplies.

As far as inspiration from other artists, he attributes his style to a cross between Wes Anderson and Damien Hirst. "Because the thing about both of them is everything they do feels really hands-on. You can see their hands in their work,” Robertson says.

Roberston continues to create sketches and other forms of art daily despite his full time gig at Estee Lauder. He says, “People say I am reminiscent of Andy Warhol because he started as an illustrator and then transitioned into art. I am kind of in that position now. Andy’s output was maybe monthly. I like putting out three or four things a day,” says Robertson.

Donald sells his work not only his own website but also on the app Trenabl where you can purchase items from multiple retailers at once.
